Raspberry Pi is one of the most popular development boards out there. After all, it offers DIY enthusiasts a platform to create simple to complex electronic projects while consuming less time, energy, and money.
Now, a development board that is much more powerful than the newest Raspberry Pi board is set to change the game. Presenting the PICO-WHU4, a compact single-board computer built for AI and Edge computing by AAEON. As compared to Raspberry Piā€™s most enhanced offering, the Raspberry Pi 4 that has Quad-core Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) 64-bit SoC, the PICO-WHU4 is equipped with 8th Generation IntelĀ® Core and CeleronĀ® processors that are available in four variants: i7-8665UE (1.7GHz up to 4.4GHz), i5-8365UE (1.6GHz up to 4.1GHz), i3-8145UE (2.2GHz up to 3.9GHz) and 4305UE (2GHz). And it doesnā€™t stop there.
  • RAM: 16GB (as compared to Raspberry Pi 4 1GB, 2GB or 4GB)
  • Processing speed: 4.45 GHz (Raspberry Pi 4 has 1.5GHz)
  • I/O ports: 4 USB ports (including two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and two USB 2.0 headers), 2 Ethernet ports and 2 COM headers
  • Cooling option available
  • Power: 12V
  • Operating temperature: 0 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius
These powerful capabilities enable users to create projects that require high performance such as AI and Edge computing applications for smart retail and smart city.
The board measures 100mm x 72mm and costs US $783 (Raspberry Pi 4 price ranges from US $35 to US $55). Although that is highly expensive, the impressive specs are worth the price.

Android app for a Temperature Management System...

Developing a Smart Android App for Temperature Alert System This project presents an Android app to generate an alert (alarm) on a smartphone when the temperature of the process under consideration exceeds user-defined maximum temperature. Alarm and annunciator instrumentation systems are widely used in the control room of process plants. When process variables being monitored by various on-field sensors exceed maximum/critical value, an alarm is generated on the PC or annunciator in the control room. This helps notify the operator to take necessary action to avoid any industrial disaster. This project is a smart temperature alert system based on a customised Android app,  Arduino  Uno and Bluetooth. The authorsā€™ prototype of the project is shown in Fig. 1.
